week 17

This week we were puting the walls on the outside of the framing of the shed.
This wasn't an easy process, with ladders and mud flying everywhere,
I had the easy job, hammering the nails in the walls to hold them up.
By the end of thr day, we had all the outside walls installed on the shed
but no roof as yet.
Jamie was happy with the work completed.

week 16

This week was the opening of the japanese garden,
and the handing out of the horticulture certificates.
So we were under pressure to have the garden
fully completed on time, running around like rabbits you could say.
But the garden was completed in time, for us to wash our hands,
and be ready for the opening ceremony.
The opening ceremony was a chance to bring parents and or guardians
along to view the work of the garden.
Food and drink were provided.
I brought grandma along and she thought the garden was great.

I am drilling the holes to drive the nails into, to hold the corners of the wall together. The walls are for the garden shed on the living campus of H block.

I am marking out the 3 centeres of the podiums different levels. So i can attach some supports, to help hold the weight of the people who are going to use it.
The podium is been built for the cadbury jaffa race, and to add to the display to go in the meridian.







 

week 15

Today we went and took all the boxing off the base of the shed to expose the concrete.
Then we spent the rest of the day in the workshop completing the
final steps of the wall framing for the shed.
It was quite a scary process, taking the boxing off the concrete,
wondering If the concrete was set enough.

week 11

Today we went out to the Taieri Golf Course, where the Arborists were working.
They talked about what they were doing, and then showed us how they accessed the tree, then we got the chance to have a go, NO THANKYOU, was all I could say.

This was because I don't like heights, unless I'm on the payroll.

week 12 carpentry

this week we completed our toy trucks for the childrens hospital,
i had time to build another truck, so got that done in the time i had,
then oiled both and handed them to Jamie Todd ready to go over to the hospital.

1. the project was very successful with everyone completing atleast one toy for the
childrens hospital
2. my truck went well, with no hick ups, that was a pretty big mericle.
3. i would have liked to make a third truck but there was not enough kitsets available.
4. yes, because i got more than one built in the time.
5. everyone done a great job, and everyone made a toy.

Today we put together the toy dump trucks for the childrens hospital, jamie and butch had cut  kitsets earlier in the week for us

we made toys for the children hospital, and painted them to the colours that would stand out and show the kids that life doesn't have to be bright to stand out

week 10

two things i enjoyed over the horticulture sector.

 1. creating bonsai's with kim and joy.

2. i also enjoyed transforming the room for the japanese bonsai garden

Monday 21st:
Installed a heat pump and was there for mostly safety reasons, as Nathan was 8mtrs up on a ladder and needed someone at the bottom of the ladder to keep it stable...

I also finished off the wiring while Nathan cleaned up outside where he had drilled, Nathan  was very happy with the standard of work i had completed.

all up i have been with nathan for 7 heatpump installations, and learnt the best way to insert copper wire into junctions.

there was no problem solving with any of these projects, and everything went well, especially with my wiring.

today we wheel barrowed and lay pebbles in the japanese garden.
we also carved our name in to a flat panel, with our names been in our own design.

bonsai tree project

Week 6 19-23rd March

1) Write the steps involved in making bonsai trees on Monday. Some ideas for your writing:

• Who taught you?
• What tools did you use?
• Where were you working?
• Were you given a tree or did you choose your own?
• What kind of tree was it?

2) Reflect on what you've learned:

• Was it easy or challenging?
• Did you enjoy it?
• What skills did you learn and could you use these skills in another situation?
• Did any problems come up and if so how did you solve them?

Kim setup a tutorial on how to do bonsai trees

1. a lady by the name of joy

2. the tools we used were:

wire cutters

scissors

chop sticks

wire (different sizes)

grafting tape

moss & stones

3. we were working the tunnel house/ prep house

4. we got to choose our own tree from a selection Kim 

had selected that would be good for the bonsai project

5. 

1.we went to the quarry and got rocks.
2.we carried/ moved the rocks to the bonsai room.
3.put wet paper then plastic down in the bonsai room.
4.completed compost bins.
5. we made 2 trips to the quarry and got 1.7 tonnes of rock for the japanese bonsai garden.

                                                                                                                                                                       
what went well: everyone worked together to get the job done.
for example, we all helped each other by lifting 1 side of a rock each.
as a team we seemed to work well for a change because we all had a common goal
of getting the job completed

wk 4

We began to build a compost bin with the girls and boys against each other.

It was raining on monday and wednesday, so we didnt get much project work in the japanese garden.

instead of the project work we done some more seed planting, and on monday will resume the japanese garden.

shaun came in and gave a talk on hydroponics giving us a taste of his fabulous tasting veges.

week 3 homework

today at malcolm trust the team building experience was interesting, with different kinds of activitys than usual. with alot of group work.
